Annual Fee & Value Overview

The Chase Sapphire Preferred has a $95 annual fee—one of the lowest for a premium travel rewards card. The card offers solid earning rates and basic travel protections without the premium perks of higher-fee cards.

What Changed on June 15, 2026

Chase refreshed the Sapphire Preferred benefits on June 15, 2026 while keeping the annual fee at $95. The biggest updates are richer everyday earning, a larger Chase Travel hotel credit, a trusted traveler credit, and a new Apple TV benefit.

• New 3x category: gas and EV charging
• New 3x category: vacation homes at brands such as Airbnb, Vrbo, Plum Guide, HomeAway, Homestay.com, and Vacasa
• Hotel credit increased: up to $100 each account anniversary year for hotel accommodation purchases made through Chase Travel
• New trusted traveler credit: up to $120 for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS every four years
• New Apple TV benefit: one year complimentary when activated by December 31, 2026
• New travel protection: Emergency Evacuation and Transportation coverage

Chase says the only newly announced benefit that requires activation is the one-year Apple TV subscription. The hotel credit applies to eligible Chase Travel hotel accommodation purchases.

Statement Credits

Annual Credits

• Chase Travel Hotel Credit: up to $100/year - For hotel accommodation purchases made through Chase Travel. Chase says this is available each account anniversary year, does not require activation, and the first $100 in annual Chase Travel hotel purchases does not earn rewards points.
• Trusted Traveler Credit: up to $120 every four years - Reimburses the application fee for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS when charged to the Sapphire Preferred.

Monthly Credits

• DoorDash Promo: $10/month - For eligible non-restaurant DoorDash orders while enrolled in eligible DashPass and using the Sapphire Preferred at checkout.

Anniversary Bonus Transition

• 10% anniversary bonus discontinued for new applicants: Chase says the 10% anniversary bonus is discontinued for cardmembers who apply on or after June 15, 2026. Cardmembers who applied before June 15, 2026 can continue earning the bonus on eligible purchases made through October 1, 2026, with eligible bonuses awarded by January 31, 2027.

Partner Benefits

DashPass Membership

Complimentary DashPass membership ($120 value for 12 months) with $0 delivery fees on eligible DoorDash orders, plus up to $10 off each month on groceries, daily essentials, and more through DoorDash. DoorDash says Sapphire Preferred DashPass is free through December 31, 2027 or for a minimum of one year depending on activation date, and must be activated by December 31, 2027.

Apple TV

One year of complimentary Apple TV is available when activated by December 31, 2026. Chase says this is the only newly announced benefit that requires activation.

Points Earning Rates

• 5x points - Chase Travel purchases, including flights, hotels, car rentals, cruises, activities, and tours. The first $100 in annual Chase Travel hotel purchases that qualify for the hotel credit does not earn points.
• 3x points - Gas and EV charging
• 3x points - Vacation homes at brands such as Airbnb, Vrbo, Plum Guide, HomeAway, Homestay.com, and Vacasa
• 5x points - Lyft rides (through 9/30/2027)
• 5x points - Peloton equipment over $150 (through 12/31/2027)
• 3x points - Dining at restaurants (including delivery)
• 3x points - Online grocery purchases (excluding Target, Walmart, wholesale clubs)
• 3x points - Select streaming services
• 2x points - Other travel purchases (flights, hotels, car rentals outside Chase Travel)
• 1x point - All other purchases

Ultimate Rewards points transfer to airline and hotel partners including United, Southwest, Marriott, British Airways, and World of Hyatt. Chase says World of Hyatt transfers move to a 4:3 rate for Sapphire Preferred cardmembers, effective immediately for cardmembers who apply on or after June 15, 2026 and October 1, 2026 for cardmembers who applied before June 15, 2026.

Travel Insurance & Protections

Car Rental Insurance (Primary)

Primary coverage up to $60,000 for theft and collision damage on rental vehicles with MSRP up to $125,000. Primary coverage means it pays first before your personal auto insurance.

Trip Protection

• Emergency Evacuation and Transportation: Up to $100,000 for eligible medical services and transportation when a covered traveler is injured or becomes sick during a trip 100+ miles from home and needs emergency evacuation
• Trip Cancellation/Interruption: Up to $10,000 per traveler, $20,000 per trip
• Trip Delay: Up to $500 per traveler for delays over 12 hours or requiring overnight stay
• Baggage Delay: Up to $100/day for 5 days for essentials when baggage delayed 6+ hours

Purchase Protections

• Purchase Protection: Up to $500 per item for 120 days against damage or theft
• Extended Warranty: Adds 1 year to manufacturer warranties up to 3 years

• Point Transfers: Transfer Ultimate Rewards points to leading airline and hotel loyalty partners. World of Hyatt moves to a 4:3 transfer rate under Chase's June 2026 update for new Sapphire Preferred cardmembers, while cardmembers who opened before June 15, 2026 keep 1:1 Hyatt transfers through September 30, 2026.

Is the Chase Sapphire Preferred Worth It?

The Chase Sapphire Preferred is ideal for occasional travelers who want good earning rates without paying for premium perks they won't use. The $95 annual fee can be offset by:

• Up to $100 Chase Travel hotel credit
• Up to $120/year in DoorDash promos while enrolled in eligible DashPass
• Up to $120 Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS credit every four years
• $220/year in credits while DoorDash promo eligibility is active, if hotel and DoorDash credits are fully used

The CSP is a useful entry point into the Chase ecosystem if you can use Chase Travel, DoorDash, and the new everyday 3x categories without paying for lounge access. If you travel frequently enough to use lounge access and higher credits, compare it with the Reserve. If you rarely travel, the Freedom Flex (no annual fee) may be better.
